i cannot even begin to describe how much i love this so far. the characters and the world and the writing are all phenomenal and i'm really excited for the rest of the story
I've been playing for only a day and I'm in love with the story. The way you describe the surroundings and characters is amazing! There's so much detail even in the more minor characters just brings it to life, the story is amazing and the attention to detail spectacular. The work you put into the story really admirable, the story is a lovely experience!
I've been reading this for a while now and this story is a masterpiece! I'm so glad I came across ATOC on Tumblr because it is such a joy to sink into. The attention to detail for the different traits and choices is phenomenal. The writing is breathtaking from the first sentence. The amount of emotions and laughter I have had reading are countless. My favorite thing is probably how detailed all the characters are from the MC to the ROs and even minor characters come to life in such a vibrant way! I'm so thankful for all the hard work you put in to this story and making the community around it a positive experience!
Brilliant writing, an extremely compelling plot and even more compelling love interests (I've never felt so attacked and spoiled for choice) and side characters, your choices really feel like they matter and I can't wait to see where it goes! The community is super lovely and friendly as well, by far the most fun I've ever had reading an IF!
atoc is one of my absolute FAVORITE stories i could literally gush about it all day! you are so skilled at weaving an engrossing story that asks readers to think, remember, and connect.
the build up and pacing of everything makes a ton of sense. the interpretation of "slow burn" across 4 different LIs and a bunch of varied crown personalities is HARD to manage but you pull it off so well. there's always new progression to note in every scene. there is no "fluff" in the writing in the sense that everything has an intent and purpose. in a plot like this it's key, and i think it was a really thoughtful choice that worked in your favor that this is an IF because the weight of everything is almost tangible when you read.
your skill in characterization and development really shines in chapter 6, especially now that we are beginning to peel back the layers of not only the LIs but also the crown and the antagonists. the conversations the characters have with the crown and with each other really make them feel like tangible personalities and that's part of what makes reading atoc so engaging. you don't want to miss ANY details because you never know which ones are going to be relevant later. from a gameplay standpoint it's incredibly compelling; your intent in regards to replayability really shines in this aspect of the work.
overall i'm INCREDIBLY excited to see where this story goes. you deserve ALL the laurels!

I love this story, it's so great !! Love the writing, the world building, the characters ! And I love that it's not a story about white people in an "Arabic" world. I think it's a really good way to learn more about Kurdish culture, and it's what make your game unique and beautiful in my opinion. And a no-binary crown is A+ in my book <3

It's been a while since I read something that made me connect and imagine the universe so vividly like this. Sometimes I have to remind myself this doesn't have any ilustrations with how clear you manage to describe the scenes. The word building is truly fantastic and the characters, just so well writen, I usually struggle so much with names, I can barely remember the main characters names from my favorite midias and yet I always take note of the supportive characters in this story. The interactions are so nice to read, it really feels that there as long term dynamics between the characters, I love this story so far and am really thankfull for your hard work. Really excited to see how it goes form now on.
Hi! I absolutely adore this game, thank you for making it. I was wondering, and maybe this is not possible, but is there a way for us to set the genders of the ROs if we choose to play as a character attracted to any gender? After playing through multiple times, in my head I see the characters as the gender I used for all those playthroughs. With the new update I had to reset, but if I start a new save from the beginning, some of the characters match their old gender, and some have switched which is a bit jarring.
Idk if this is feasible, and if it's unreasonable I apologize. But if it's not too difficult, having the option to select the gender of the characters instead of it being completely randomized would be great :)
Nope, that won't be a feature. Not because it's not possible, but because I chose not to implement it that way. I'm happy with the gender system the way it is right now.

The newest chapter is such a treat! I didn't know what to expect, but it's very enjoyable to see that the main storyline + the political aspect aren't being derailed at all by the romances. The romances is integrated seamlessly into the plot, and I'm loving every single RO and the the side characters as well!
On a side note, would there be a parameter showing our relationship with every available factions? It seems that we're going to juggle the relationships between at least the public, nobles, and the peri?
To be clear, they're not faeries, they're peri! It's a very specific myth to the Middle East, they're not interchangeable terms.
And no, there won't be a parameter for that. You have to make the decisions you think are best suited to the situation and judge if you made the right one based on the outcome.

Aniway i just wanted to say that even if i'm not a fan a love stories i usually like books like the witcher, dragon age etc... where romance is not the main thing (and i like fighting more haha). I got curious about this game and decided to try. The universe and characters are amazing enough to make me keep going, it just make me want to pick up a sword and go explore :D.
It was a really good read so far i'm at chapter 4 trying to not get a bad ending this time. I'm hyped for chapter 5 and maybe 6 !

I absolutely love this game. Such a beautiful world and characters that simply draw you in. Not to mention the flawless incorporation of gender, pronouns, and personality. (Unlike some Twine-based games, I felt as though my character was real and I became immersed in the storytelling). At first I couldn't decide who to pursue, but...Azad here I come :-)
This is such a wonderful game. I'm obsessed with it. You've built up such an interesting world, with characters that immediately grab your reader's attention. As for why I created the game, it's very simple: I love IF and text-based games myself, and I also love both the fantasy and romance genres, so I decided to try my hand at it! I was also inspired by the desire to explore my own heritage and culture in a way I haven't seen represented in popular media, so that's how AToC basically came about!
I kept clicking on the blank chapter six page, hoping that it wasn't over, but it was! This was amazing! I was a bit hesitant to starting a text-based game, but the customization pulled me in (along with a tiny voice in my head that said, "You read fanfiction; you can-at the very least-read this!" And I'm so glad I did!).
I can't wait for the next chapter, keep up the AMAZING work!

This is so great! I was dubious about starting a completely text-based game just because my attention span hasn't been the best lately and I was afraid I'd drop off after a few clicks, but the writing is so wonderful and vivid and the world is so fascinating that I played the available chapters in couple days. Loved every bit of it.
I kind of want to re-play just to get all the content, but I don't know if I could handle picking anyone other than Azad.
This game made me such a happy Lady! ( I love reading,RP , fantasy, and studying culture and history so this kind of setting with some fantasy too hit that happy little niche for me)
Very late addition: I just figured out that if you run the store page in desktop mode and start the game that way, you will get the option to Save to Disk/Load from Disk as well. Hopefully that solves this problem for you!

I just wanted to tell you that this one of the best text-based game I have ever played! It's amazing ! The story is beautifully written and at times, I feel like I'm really living it ! I have never been that immersed in a story, although sometimes I have some difficulties to understand a few words but that's only because I'm French ahah :)
Also the characters are all so endearing in their own ways that it is difficult to choose one ahah ! You really have a great talent in writing , don't ever stop ;)
But, I was wondering about something...Unfortunately, at the end of chapter 4 I got a " Bad END". What does that mean ? I thought I was doing everything right...?
It may be due to a wrong choice of mine, right ? But I don't know what to do now...Do I need to restart the entire game ?
Can you enlighten me ? I really would like to continue playing your game which is, I say it again, amazing.

It's no trouble! Getting the BAD END at the end of Chapter Four means you didn't get enough points with any of the love interests. I have a walkthrough on my blog that shows you how to avoid it, and how to get the love interest you want!

I love to play these types of games and I keep coming back to yours to check on updates. I honestly think your characters are super interesting and I usually get attached to one character, but this time I couldn't choose, they're all so amazing. The writing's great and doesn't get repetitive or boring, so you can keep on rereading it. And honestly, you're my inspiration to continue writing myself! So to keep it short, keep up the good work and if you're considering writing more after you finish this, I'll be right there to support it! :D
Love it. Going in for the second play through but stumbled across something I'm curious about. On my first playthrough, for no particular reason, I went with a non-binary (going by they) Crown who was attracted to both men and women. In that I noticed that Xelara was a women, as was Lady Rozerin, and Dara and Azad were both men. And going by the lovely artwork on this page I figured that those were the genders they were originally intended to be and/or written as. For my second playthrough I wanted to switch things up (naturally) so I went with a male Crown, but I wanted to stick with the dynamic I had before since I was attached to the crew like that so I again picked to be attracted to both men and women thinking that everyone would be the same as before.
But, I noticed that Xelara and Dara had flipped genders. Which made me curious about whether or not Xelara was strictly homosexual (the princess ex and "you sedoosed my mum!!!" guy were also big hints) and Dara straight or something and it just doesn't apply in a situation where the Crown is nonbinary. So then I tried to do it with a female Crown, again attracted to both men and women. That time it was Rozerin and Azad's turn to flip.
So now I'm wondering if it's set up like Rozerin and Dara are straight and will always be the opposite gender of the Crown and Xelara and Azad are gay and will always be the same gender as the Crown. Is that right? Or am I reading to much into it? Also sorry for writing so much! to be fair though I had to read way more of your writing so I guess karma do be a bitch like that sometimes lol.
Reading way too much into it. All the LIs are bisexual regardless of their gender or the Crown's gender. The LIs switch randomly between genders for bisexual Crowns just because I figured that would keep things interesting.
Also, an important point I want to make: the LIs do not have "canon" genders. I always intended them to have both male and female versions. The reason those versions are in the artwork is because those are the ones I just happened to commission first. Playing with Xelef is just as canon as playing with Xelara, etc.
Aha that's just how I roll (especially nowadays) ^^. I thought it could just be for replayability's sake too. And that's fair enough, I didn't mean to imply that they're not canon or anything, of course. Now super interested to see the inverse artwork. Thanks for the response. Oh and keep up the good work!
I absolutely adore everything about "A Tale of Crowns:" the background of the main character, as well as the world itself, is so different and vast with culture, the characters make me want to tease them all equally, and I love how each action seems to help define the main protagonist. I'm definitely looking forward to all future updates and narratives. Keep up the good work! ^_^

I was dubious about starting a completely text-based game just because my attention span hasn't been the best lately and I was afraid I'd drop off after a few clicks, but the writing is so wonderful and vivid and the world is so fascinating that I played the available chapters in couple days. Loved every bit of it.
I kind of want to re-play just to get all the content, but I don't know if I could handle picking anyone other than Azad.

Very late addition: I just figured out that if you run the store page in desktop mode and start the game that way, you will get the option to Save to Disk/Load from Disk as well. Hopefully that solves this problem for you!
Hello !! ( please forgive my english in advance, I'm not a native english speaker!)
I just wanted to tell you that this one of the best text-based game I have ever played! It's amazing ! The story is beautifully written and at times, I feel like I'm really living it ! I have never been that immersed in a story, although sometimes I have some difficulties to understand a few words but that's only because I'm French ahah :)
Also the characters are all so endearing in their own ways that it is difficult to choose one ahah ! You really have a great talent in writing , don't ever stop ;)
But, I was wondering about something...Unfortunately, at the end of chapter 4 I got a " Bad END". What does that mean ? I thought I was doing everything right...?
It may be due to a wrong choice of mine, right ? But I don't know what to do now...Do I need to restart the entire game ?
Can you enlighten me ? I really would like to continue playing your game which is, I say it again, amazing.

It's no trouble! Getting the BAD END at the end of Chapter Four means you didn't get enough points with any of the love interests. I have a walkthrough on my blog that shows you how to avoid it, and how to get the love interest you want!

I honestly think your characters are super interesting and I usually get attached to one character, but this time I couldn't choose, they're all so amazing. Love it. Going in for the second play through but stumbled across something I'm curious about. On my first playthrough, for no particular reason, I went with a non-binary (going by they) Crown who was attracted to both men and women. In that I noticed that Xelara was a women, as was Lady Rozerin, and Dara and Azad were both men. And going by the lovely artwork on this page I figured that those were the genders they were originally intended to be and/or written as. For my second playthrough I wanted to switch things up (naturally) so I went with a male Crown, but I wanted to stick with the dynamic I had before since I was attached to the crew like that so I again picked to be attracted to both men and women thinking that everyone would be the same as before.
But, I noticed that Xelara and Dara had flipped genders. Which made me curious about whether or not Xelara was strictly homosexual (the princess ex and "you sedoosed my mum!!!" guy were also big hints) and Dara straight or something and it just doesn't apply in a situation where the Crown is nonbinary. So then I tried to do it with a female Crown, again attracted to both men and women. That time it was Rozerin and Azad's turn to flip.
So now I'm wondering if it's set up like Rozerin and Dara are straight and will always be the opposite gender of the Crown and Xelara and Azad are gay and will always be the same gender as the Crown. Is that right? Or am I reading to much into it? Also sorry for writing so much!
to be fair though I had to read way more of your writing so I guess karma do be a bitch like that sometimes lol.Reading way too much into it. All the LIs are bisexual regardless of their gender or the Crown's gender. The LIs switch randomly between genders for bisexual Crowns just because I figured that would keep things interesting.
Also, an important point I want to make: the LIs do not have "canon" genders. I always intended them to have both male and female versions. The reason those versions are in the artwork is because those are the ones I just happened to commission first. Playing with Xelef is just as canon as playing with Xelara, etc.
Aha that's just how I roll (especially nowadays) ^^. I thought it could just be for replayability's sake too. And that's fair enough, I didn't mean to imply that they're not canon or anything, of course. Now super interested to see the inverse artwork. Thanks for the response. Oh and keep up the good work!
I absolutely adore everything about "A Tale of Crowns:" the background of the main character, as well as the world itself, is so different and vast with culture, the characters make me want to tease them all equally, and I love how each action seems to help define the main protagonist. I'm definitely looking forward to all future updates and narratives. Keep up the good work! ^_^

but take everything i say with a grain of salt as i am just a dumb 14y/o with no life experience
Please keep in mind the game is rated 16+ for a reason! It's really not suited for anyone under 16.
